AANI CALLS FOR URGENT, STRATEGIC RESPONSE TO ESCALATING SECURITY CHALLENGES

The Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI) expresses deep concern over the recent surge of violent attacks across parts of Nigeria, including the tragic killings in communities in Kwara and Benue States, as well as the recent abduction of worshippers in Kaduna State who, thankfully, have now been rescued through security intervention.

While we acknowledge and commend the security agencies for the successful rescue efforts in Kaduna, the recurring pattern of killings, kidnappings, and violent assaults across several states has heightened public anxiety. Many Nigerians are living in fear and uncertainty, and this atmosphere of insecurity demands urgent, coordinated, and strategic action.

Security is the foundation upon which national development stands. AANI therefore calls for strengthened intelligence operations, enhanced inter-agency coordination, deeper community engagement, and accelerated prosecution of criminal elements. Beyond immediate tactical responses, there is an urgent need for structural and policy reforms that address the root causes of insecurity.

As a body comprising distinguished professionals in security, governance, law, military service, intelligence, and public policy, AANI reiterates its readiness to contribute expert-driven, actionable strategies to support government efforts.

In this regard, AANI will soon convene a national conference themed “Community Policing and State Police: Options, Challenges, and Opportunities.”  This timely initiative is aimed at advancing practical conversations and solutions to strengthen grassroots security architecture and restore public confidence.

Nigeria must not yield to fear. Through unity, strategic leadership, and collective responsibility, we can secure our nation and protect our people.

Towards a Better Society.
